It is hard to believe that we are only two weeks from the holiday break. We are still keeping very busy in English class, and it is important that everyone keeps their focus during this time of year. It will be a lot of hard work in the coming weeks, but don't stress - you have 11 days off coming up just around the corner.
Here is what we are working on this week
Period C:
- Students continue to work on their poetry unit. Our focus right now is looking at various formats of poetry and using models to practice some of our own.
- Students also should be finalizing their personal narratives this week. Final drafts are due this Friday. I have already seen some great work out there in the rough drafts that were brought in for editing last week. Keep it up!
Period D:
- We are in the midst of a two week writer's workshop. During this time, students are focused strictly on the writing process. By the end of next week, each student will have produced three process pieces. That means a pre-writing outline, rough draft, revision, and final draft for three different essays. Students have classtime to work on these pieces, but if they fall behind, they may need to utilize more time at home, too.
Period E/G:
- Students are wrapping up their news writing/journalism unit this week by using information they got through a mock interview process to write a formal news story. Students will begin drafting today in class and work up to a final publishable piece by the end of class Friday.
Remember, this is a fun time of year, but stay focused! Progress reports do go home on Friday, and I encourage all to stay for extra help, especially if you see yourself falling behind.
